My most asked questions

Having a photo shoot should be a fun and enjoyable experience start to finish.

It's my job to make you feel relaxed and confident in front of the camera and to answer any questions you might have. Have a look through some of our most frequently asked questions for more info. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, WhatsApp or email me or just give me a call and I’ll get right back to you.

Photography is all about capturing the essence of a moment or an event. When you are thinking of having your photo shoot in St Francis Bay, the options are endless. I think the best photo shoots are taken where you feel comfortable and happy. The beach, the rocks, the gardens, the wild side or at your home are all good choices. We can find a place to meet that captures the memories you want to save.

Outdoor photo shoots in Johannesburg are usually held in Delta Park, urban settings, at your home or by arrangement.

I can do photo shoots at any time of the day.

From a photographer’s point of view, I love to shoot at sunrise and sunset. The natural lighting is beautiful at these times. This may mean an early start to catch the first light, or a late time to capture the sun as it goes down.

If your family photo shoot is to include little ones, we can chat through what timing will work best around naps and meals.

When picking a time, we will consider the location and the conditions.  I do have some preferred spots for various wind directions, times to match tides and locations to match any mobility needs.

In order to capture beautiful photos, it’s worth putting some thought into your photo shoot wardrobe. Take some time to consider what clothes make you feel good and comfortable.

If you’re planning a family portrait, it is a good idea to choose clothes that complement each other. Picking similar colours from a fairly neutral palette will make your photos look cohesive. Instead of matching, try to coordinate your outfits. I recommend selecting something timeless, without logos or prints.  I’m very happy to provide suggestions or chat through your choices before the shoot.

Sure, as a dog-lover I know how important it is to include dogs in family photos.  Bear in mind, though, that dogs can become the focus and can be distracting.  We can chat through how to include your dog for part of the shoot and bringing a family friend to take care of them whilst we take photos of the humans.

I have a few tricks up my sleeve when it comes to making the most out of your family session.  If I sense a child needs a break to explore, play and blow off some steam, then I’ll focus on other family groupings first. This gives children time to warm up and get comfortable with the idea of being in front of the camera.

I do!  Here are my tried and tested top tips:

  • Feed them a solid meal beforehand. Hungry kids are grumpy kids.
  • Leave the toys at home! We want them to focus on playing with you, not the big red plastic dump truck. AND we definitely don’t want tears when trying to get Peppa Pig out the shot.
  • If your baby or child is of napping age, try and get them to have a sleep before the shoot. We can discuss timing the shoot around nap times.
  • Engage with your kids fully and give them all your attention and they will lead us through what they want to do or see.
  • Try not to shout or discipline.

Remember this is meant to be a fun memory for ALL of you. That means giving up control of your perfect vision for the shoot and having fun yourselves!

For the most part, I prefer to make the call at the last possible moment – some of my best sunset sessions have been after rain!  I’ll keep in touch with you and if need be, we can postpone to a new date.

I’m more than happy to rebook within a reasonable timeframe if you need to postpone due to illness or other factors. Life happens.

If you need to cancel, please give at least one week’s notice and I will refund you your deposit.

Your photos will be ready within 2 weeks of your session.

When I shoot special occasions, I will try my best to get you a few edited shots within a couple of days so you can share on your social media.  Let me know if this is important to you when we chat through your shoot.

Your images will be selected and carefully edited. These photos will be uploaded onto a private gallery weblink that you can share with all your family.

The camera rolls quickly and you will get all the good photos from your shoot.  From experience, during an hour, there will be around 60 great photos, and sometimes more.  They’ll be a mix of candid and posed photos, portraits and group shots, and maybe even some surprise moments that will make you laugh.

I shoot in the raw which means all of your photos need to be professionally edited.  Raw photos will not be supplied.

The first step is to decide what package you would like.  I am happy to chat with you and help you get exactly what you have in mind.  Send me a WhatsApp 083 6931904 and we can arrange a phone call.

Once you have decided, click here and I will be in touch to arrange a date.

I look forward to working with you to create memories that will last a lifetime and beyond.
